Equus Metric Privacy Policy
Last updated: draft, not yet published -- this page mirrors the in-app policy word for word and will be updated together with it once it has had a full legal review.
Equus Metric is built around your horse's data. This page explains, in plain English, what we collect, how we use it, and what control you have over it.
What we collect
To run Equus Metric, we collect:
- Your email address and password, handled securely through our authentication provider (Supabase).
- Horse profiles you create -- name, breed, discipline, birth date, sex, workload level, body type, keeper type, and an optional photo.
- Measurements and body condition scores you log, including the method used and an optional photo.
- Conditioning, nutrition, and rider-fitness logs you create, including session details and, where relevant, a red-flag or limb-concern answer.
- Appointments and care records you add, which may include a vet, farrier, or other provider's name and phone number if you choose to enter one -- see "Information you provide about other people" below.
- Competition or event details you set as a goal.
- Optional horse notes -- companions, temperament, behaviour, likes and dislikes -- if you choose to add them.
- Optional passport details for a horse -- passport, microchip and UELN numbers, the issuing organisation, date issued, colour and markings -- and photos of up to six passport pages, if you choose to add them. Passport pages can include an owner's name and address, so they are kept private to your account and are never included in the vet summary.
- Optional insurance details for a horse -- the insurer's name, your policy number, the types of cover, the renewal date and a claims phone number -- if you choose to add them. These are kept for your own reference and renewal reminders only.
- Basic usage events that tell us which features are used, so we can improve the app -- see "How it's used" below.
What we don't collect
We don't collect:
- Horse registration papers or passport documents, other than the optional passport details and page photos you choose to add to a horse's profile (see above).
- Insurance quotes, premiums, claims or payments. Equus Metric does not arrange, sell, compare or recommend insurance -- it only stores the details you type in.
- Your home address.
- Payment card details -- your subscription is billed entirely by the Apple App Store, and we never see or store your card information.
How it's used
We use your data to:
- Power the app's own features -- your measurements, logs and appointments exist so the app can show them back to you.
- Understand, in aggregate, how the app's features are used, so we can make informed product decisions.
- Receive crash reports through Sentry when something goes wrong, so we can fix it. Sentry is explicitly configured not to attach your IP address or other personal context to these reports.
What we don't do
We don't:
- Sell your data.
- Share your data with advertisers.
- Use your data to train third-party AI models.
Who can see it
Only you. Every piece of data in Equus Metric is tied to your account and enforced at the database level, so no other user -- and no one on our team browsing the app -- can see your horses, measurements, or logs.
Information you provide about other people
Appointment records let you save a vet, farrier, or other care provider's name and phone number. We store this only to help you manage your own horse's care schedule, and we process it solely at your direction as the account holder.
If you add someone else's contact details, you're responsible for making sure you have a right to store that information -- for example, by only adding professional contacts you already work with.
Your data, your control
You can delete your account at any time from Account, then Delete Account. Deleting your account immediately and permanently removes your profile, every horse profile, and all associated measurements, body condition scores, conditioning and nutrition logs, horse notes, insurance details, passport details and page photos, appointments, goal events, and photos.
A small number of anonymized usage-analytics events may remain afterward. These events never contain your name, email address, or any free text -- only an action name and a few technical details -- and once your account is deleted, they're stripped of any link back to you or your account.
How long we keep it
We keep your account and its data for as long as your account stays active. We haven't yet finalized a retention policy for accounts that go inactive without being deleted -- this is still being worked out, and this page will be updated once it is.
Why we're allowed to process your data, and where
We process your data because it's necessary to provide the service you've signed up for, and -- for crash reports and usage analytics -- because we have a legitimate interest in keeping Equus Metric reliable and improving it over time.
Some of our service providers may process data outside the UK and European Economic Area. Where that happens, we rely on their standard contractual clauses or an equivalent safeguard recognized under UK GDPR. We're still confirming the exact regions and specific safeguards each provider uses, and will update this section with those details once that review is complete.
Third parties we use
We use a small number of trusted service providers to run Equus Metric:
- Supabase -- our database, authentication and file-storage provider. It holds all of the data described above.
- RevenueCat -- manages your free trial and subscription status, and receives purchase/subscription events along with store and device identifiers.
- Sentry -- receives crash reports when the app encounters an error, configured not to attach your IP address or other personal context.
- Apple App Store -- when you start your free trial or subscribe, your payment is handled entirely by Apple. We never see or store your card details.
Changes to this policy
If we make a material change to this policy, we'll let you know in the app before it takes effect.
